Adolescence Books To Read During Adolescence
Adolescence is the hardest time of our life. I am not saying that life becomes easier after that, sometimes it does, sometimes it does not, but adolescence is a time of age that gives a tough knock. It is a time of learning; it is a time of making mistakes. It is a time when a person’s hormones make a fool of him. To tell you, the age of 11-18 years is considered as the adolescent age.
At that time, you wish for the advice, but you do not ask for it. Because you do not understand if the question you have, should be the question you should have. Or are you not learning fast enough. As the Laurie Halse Anderson in her book “Speak” quote:
It’s easier to floss with barbed wire than admit you like someone in middle school.
Even the parents get confused if they should talk to about all these emotional and hormonal changes their kids are having.
The best thing to do is to read Adolescence books. There are many Adolescence books that deal with the adolescent issues. And I know non-fiction might be boring for that age of kids, but there are many fiction novels that will make your life easy and teach you lots of things, while you will be enjoying this story.
Here I am going to tell some of the Books to Read at the time of Adolescence. They will help you too.
Books to Read at the time of Adolescence
This book deals with bullying, grief, child abuse, masturbation, sexual fantasies, crushes, and the problem an adolescent kid is having. This is a story of Charlie, who you might relatable if you feel a little bit lonely in school. First dates, family drama, and new friends. Sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss, young love, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.
– Harry Potter Series
Adolescence is like having only enough light to see the step directly in front of you.
Sarah Addison said this in her book The Girl who Chased the moon. But I say that Harry Potter series lighten up the whole path. Harry Potter series, as they say, a magical book, but beyond that, this is a story of many kids, that grows in front of eyes. You see them when they were 11 and follow them to their 17. You see them struggling with girls, teachers, and parents. This is a story, totally based on a school and on school students. This is fantasy Book to Read at the time of Adolescence.
Moreover, it is high-class fantasy, you must not miss it…
The most suitable series to read for the kid of age 11-19.
The hero-narrator of The Catcher in the Rye is an ancient child of sixteen, a native New Yorker named Holden Caulfield. A teenager does not his place in the world, and get self-depressed. It is a story of a boy as confuse as any teenager in the world.
Read this and see the troubles a kid face, even there are not any direct problems. It is invisible problems that adults cannot see.
– Are you there God? It’s Me Margaret by Judy Blume
This is a very girlie book as it deals with young girl’s fears, first crush, a new girl trying to fit into her new school and her select friends whose mantra is to make their breasts bigger: ”We must, we must, we must increase our busts.”
Not only this, but this book also argues about the religion and faith. A book that any girl or boy, even at the age of 7, can read.
– To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Well, this is a classic Book to Read at the time of Adolescence. Everyone should read this, and the early a person read it, the better it is. It shows the relation between kids and their father. Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill A Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior – to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos.
The thing kids learn to acquire from the society, and how a father show them that society is not always right.
– Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Brunt
This one is my personal favorite. I have read this multiple times. There is a girl, shy and introvert. This is a story of her. The best part is, she does not turn extrovert in the end, she remains what she is. The book is a gem. It talks about homosexuality, through the eyes of a small girl. A brother-sister relationship, a sister-relationship, and how a family glues itself after all the breakings.
– Wonder by R J Palacio
August Pullman is the ugliest anyone can imagine. He is in 5th Grade. This is his story narrated by him. This is a story of an ugly kid surviving not only school but the world. The life is already tough for him, and he did not even start it yet.
He loses his positivity, but not his humor; he loses his physical beauty but not his kind attitude, neither his humor. This book is another great read for kids, to teach that facial beauty is not everything.
So these are some Books to Read at the time of Adolescence that I told you. There are others Adolescence Books too, and books are subjective. No two people can read the same book. These books have taught me a lot; I wish they do the same for you.
